"Holding space" is a term that refers to the act of being fully present and supportive for a person or a group of people. It involves creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where people can express themselves freely and authentically
It is important to cultivate an attitude of openness, curiosity, and empathy. This involves actively listening to the other person, withholding any assumptions or biases you may have, and seeking to understand their experience from their perspective.
Practice:
Close your eyes or soften your gaze, and take a few deep breaths. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, allowing your body to relax.
Visualize a warm and loving light emanating from your heart center, and filling your entire body. As you continue to focus on your heart center, bring to mind a person that you would like to hold space for.
Imagine them in your mind's eye, seeing their face, their body, and any other details that come to mind.
As you visualize the person, bring to mind any emotions or feelings that you associate with them. Allow yourself to feel these emotions without judgment or resistance.
Say quiety to yourself, "I am here for you. I am holding you in my heart. May you find peace and healing in this moment."
Allow your facial muscles to relax and let a gentle smile form on your lips.
When you are ready, take a few deep breaths, and slowly open your eyes.
